Michael Drugowitsch and his former partner Paul Burkhard started their dream of producing tortillas in Switzerland in 1995. It was a leap into the deep end. They had to face challenges including accounting and making investment plans – not to mention selling tortillas. “When we first started out, there wasn’t enough money to pay our salaries. It was only thanks to the help of others that we weren’t sleeping under a bridge!”...
Their first tortilla chips were hand-sliced into six pieces, deep-fried in hand fryers and seasoned using saltshakers. The chips sold very well, so purchasing a machine was inevitable. It was a purchase that almost bankrupted the company. At this low point of their business, Paul Burkhard left the venture. Michael Drugowitsch did not want to give up on his dream and kept on going.
Today, MiAdelita GmbH is managed in the second generation by Christoph Gsell and Jacques Bossart. MiAdelita is the largest producer of fresh corn tortillas and tortilla chips in Switzerland. Since 2017, MiAdelita has also been supplying customers abroad with their products.
